Middle Eastern investors have a well-known fondness for investing in Europe. This is perhaps highlighted most visibly in the purchase of iconic hotels in London and Paris, and the acquisition or sponsorship of high-profile football teams. These types of investment are popular for good reason: prime property in major cities provides a reliable stream of income, and the European football market was worth an estimated 5.3 billion USD last year.
A recent Deloitte report highlighted that “The ownership of a successful European [football] club has long been seen by many as a global trophy asset, providing owners with an enhanced business profile and access to important relationships.”
However, prestige is not the only deciding factor for Middle Eastern investors, and many are choosing to deploy capital into projects where they can support significant progress in science and technology. The European healthcare market offers many such projects – and they are increasingly attracting the attention of investors from the Middle East.
This is particularly true in the GCC (Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait), where partnerships between local Gulf investors and European healthcare solution providers are common. Oman recently announced plans to build the country’s very first European hospital. The multi-specialty hospital will be located in Muscat.
The hospital will be run by Spanish healthcare provider ASISA, and 40 European doctors and nurses will be brought in to staff the hospital, in addition to European administrators. 54.5 million USD (21 million OMR) is being invested into the project.
Naseba has spent over a decade building a network of investors around the world – including in the Middle East. Our investor analyst team speaks with these investors on a daily basis in order to fully understand their needs and mandates. Based on this research, our analysts have identified strong demand among investors for European healthcare solutions and services.
On 4th and 5th, October 2016, we will be organising a private investor meeting in Dubai and Riyadh to introduce pre-screened Middle Eastern investors to pre-qualified healthcare investment opportunities from all over Europe.
